A civic action
On February 26, 2004, a strong earthquake shook the region of Al Hoceima. Thousands of houses were destroyed.. The housing in rural areas suffered greater damage due to the nature of the materials used for building (stone, earth, and adobe) and because of the construction techniques that are used (absence of foundations).. Despite the assistance from the State, many inhabitants living in the rural areas affected by the earthquake around Al Hoceima did not have financial means to conduct the reconstruction works.
The Zakoura Foundation wanted to help by developing a specific loan. Thus 97 loans, of on average 13,500 MAD ($US 1,560), have been granted in the rural communes of Louta, Aït Youssef Ouali and Imzouren for the construction of slabs, interior partitions, the coating of walls, and the installation of doors and windows.
